During a PI Planing event, Agile Release Trains (ART's) were using teleconferencing tools to communicate face-to-face with each of their off-shore groups. Teleconferencing equipment would fail intermittently introducing confusion and frustration on how on and off-shore groups would complete their planning each day.
Challenges
Poor audio and video technology created frustration and miscommunication concerns through feature breakdown sessions when mapping out all remaining feature during PI Planning.
Actions
Equipped team members with separate breakout rooms and backup alternative collaboration devices . Empowered teams to make more localized decisions on planned work and keeping teams time boxed that illustrated more effective measured outcomes.
results
Generated higher employee net promoter scores by strengthening trust, respect and collaboration with on and off-shore teams during PI Planning. Positioned the product teams to expand communities of practice that focused on cross-functional skillset, shifting mindsets from component teams to more feature based delivery.
